Pier Bar complaints resurface at TDC meeting

An argument over loud music coming from the Navarre Pier Bar late at night ensued again Aug. 10 between pier operator Dorothy Slye and Navarre Properties co-owner Laurie Gallup during a Tourism Development Council south committee meeting.

Gallup asked that the topic be added to the committee’s agenda, claiming that the committee needed to discuss how the music was affecting tourism. She said the loud, foul-lyric music being played until 2 a.m. was upsetting Summerwind Resort guests and leading people to make negative comments on the Internet about staying on Navarre Beach.

“I would really like if the committee could start working on exactly what is Navarre Beach,” Gallup said. “Are we family friendly or are we doing something else because if we’re doing something else, we need to know that.”

Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners decided Aug. 11 to allow the bar to stay open until 11 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday.
