Marine sanctuary readies for Run for the Reef

Ryan Walsh is entering his freshman year at the University of West Florida, and his environmental science class required him to attend a public meeting.

When he chose the Navarre Beach Marine Sanctuary Committee, he didn’t expect to hear about so many upcoming activities.

Walsh joined other members of the committee in discussing the upcoming Run for the Reef as well as other pressing matters at the June 27 meeting held at the Hampton Inn in Navarre. Mandy Evers, co-chairman of the committee, briefed members on the items on the agenda.

The Run for the Reef, the organization’s main fund-raiser scheduled for October, may coincide with the installation of the reefs, which are currently waiting on final permit approval. The Navarre Beach Leaseholders and Residents Association will be the prime sponsor for the run this year.
