First SUP and surf contest on Gulf Coast

The first stand-up paddleboarding and surf contest on the Gulf Coast took place May 21. The Eastern Surfing Association, North Gulf District and Fluid Surf Shop of Fort Walton Beach hosted the first Pro-Am SUP and surf contest on the Gulf of Mexico May 21 out on Navarre Beach.

Tim Carr of Fluid Surf Shop said conditions were perfect on the beach during the contest.

“I know this was the first one in this area from Gulf Shores to Panama City and that’s good. We couldn’t have had better conditions. There was the perfect size [of waves], wind. It was glassy and sunny,” said Carr. “It was ideal.”
