Bringing to light an oily problem

Under a high-powered UV light this tarball shines orange because it has oil mixed with dispersants that have been weathered and oxidized. This was found on Pensacola Beach. The Surfrider Foundation wants everyone to know that even though you may not see it, the oil is still there.

Surfrider Foundation is an international organization that is 27 years old and has about 60,000 members in more than 100 chapters. According to the Emerald Coast chapter website, “We are the beach people. The surfers, paddle boarders, kayakers, fishermen, swimmers, beach runners and walkers. We are activist who want to protect the ocean environment and our access to it. The ocean and beaches are our playground.”
