Residents of Navarre have a jewel of a beach in their very backyard, but getting to it by foot is not always easy, and because of the obstacle that is U.S. Highway 98 a walkover has been proposed several times in the past.
That walkover, which would connect an area on the other side of the westbound lanes of U.S. 98 to the Navarre Park, is on its way to reality, according to the Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council.
At the March 16 meeting, the South end and North end councils met to discuss a variety of topics including the walkover. Nancy Model, Santa Rosa County transportation planner, was there to present what the TDC and the communities they represent would have to do in order to fund the project. Her suggestion was through the Florida-Alabama Transportation Planning Organization’s Transportation Enhancement grant. Model provided a list of projects currently in the pipeline for the TPO.
