Glowing patches in the Gulf are algae, not oil

Mindi Meeks photographed bioluminescent algae along the shores of the Navarre Beach on Feb. 18. It can sometimes be mistaken for oil during the day, but authorities assure that these patches are not oil.If you decided to walk along the shores of Navarre Beach recently at night and saw glowing, blue spots in the water, there is no need to panic.
Those spots are actually bioluminescent alga, according to Lt. Patrick Coleman of the U.S. Coast Guard.
