The “penguins” participating in the second annual Penguin Plunge into Santa Rosa Sound next month will be “Freezin’ for a Reason.” According to Mandy Evers at Juana’s Pagodas, the proceeds from the event will benefit the Emerald Coast Honor Flight, a local non-profit organization dedicated to flying America’s veterans to the nation’s capital to view the landmarks free of charge.
At 1 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2011, Penguin Plunge participants will dash from the beach at Juana’s Pagodas into Santa Rosa Sound to symbolize a “new start” to a new year. The cost to participate is $20 by Dec. 20 and $25 after that date. Those not wanting to take the plunge can still register as a “chicken” and enjoy the other benefits of the event, which include refreshments and live music. All registrants will receive a long sleeve T-shirt and those who take the plunge will receive entry in a drawing. Online registration is available at www.active.com (search Penguin Plunge Navarre) and registration forms are available at www.juanaspagodas.com.
