The season of Christmas was looking bleak for Santa Claus.

Every December, he took time out from making toys to ride around the streets of Midway in a fire engine, visiting with the area’s children and elderly.
But budget cuts threatened to put the brakes on the Jolly Old Elf’s tour of the peninsular subdivisions.
