But that’s not the case with companies that supply energy to homes, such as Gulf Power Company, which powers most of the western Panhandle.
“The power for general utilities doesn’t use gas that you use for your car,” said Kristen Olsen, spokesperson for the Florida Public Service Commission – an independent agency that regulates and manages public utilities. “They use natural gas, coal and nuclear energy. The prices set by the companies have nothing to do with the prices at the pumps.”
