Food for Sharing kicks off

Publix in Navarre and the Pullum Family YMCA have joined forces to raise awareness of Navarre families in need. The Food for Sharing program at Publix allows shoppers to purchase bags with food items that are then given to Navarre United Methodist Church for distribution.

The Pullum Family YMCA is taking part by combining its membership drive with helping families in need.

“We’re trying to let people know that if they want to donate and buy two bags from Publix, we will waive the membership fee,” said Vanessa Porten, YMCA membership director.

To have the membership fee waived, individuals need to bring in the original receipt showing proof of purchase said Porten.

“If a person is already a member, the receipt will be entered into a drawing and the member will be eligible to receive January for free,” said Porten.

The food bags are about $12 and are available at the Publix in Navarre.
