After arguments were made on both sides of the issue during today’s meeting, Santa Rosa County Commissioners voted to discontinue the county’s public transit service after only two years in operation.
The vote was 3-2, with Commissioners Lane Lynchard and Don Salter voting in favor of keeping the service in place. With federal grant money guaranteed each year until 2015, the county’s share of the service would be $24,000 a year. Opposing commissioners stated that ridership had not increased enough to justify continuing the service, which runs from East Milton to Ninth Avenue in Pensacola.
