Community Tax-exemption for veterans on ballot

Tax-exemption for veterans on ballot

On Nov. 6, voters will be asked to decide on proposed Amendment 2 that would extend homestead exemption benefits to more disabled veterans.

At the present time, disabled veterans who were residents of Florida upon entering the service receive a $5,000 property tax exemption and an additional exemption based on the disability percentage. The proposed amendment would extend the exemption to all veterans who have a documented combat-service disability if they are a Florida resident regardless of their residency at time of service entry. This is a change from the present requirement that a service member be a Florida resident at time of service enlistment.
