Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners agreed to make the proposed Navarre pedestrian overpass project a higher priority during a Sept. 12 Florida-Alabama Transportation Planning Organization meeting.
During a Sept. 10 commissioner meeting, Commissioner Jim Melvin asked the board to consider switching the priority of two Florida Department of Transportation projects for the county in order to place the pedestrian overpass closer to the top of the list.
He said a sidewalk project in District 2, Commissioner Bob Cole’s district, was currently ranked higher than the overpass project. However, he said the overpass should have priority because of the number of pedestrian fatalities along U.S. Highway 98 in Navarre.
