When disaster strikes, emergency responders arrive to put out fires, attend to the victims and secure property. Trauma Intervention Program volunteers come to disasters to assist with emotional first aid to witnesses.
Charlie Batson of Navarre has been a volunteer with TIP since November 2011. She was inspired to join the organization after volunteering to help victims of the devastating April 2011 tornadoes in Alabama.
“After my experience with the tornadoes in Alabama, I had to counsel a mother who lost both of her sons,” Batson said. “I noticed that there was not a lot of emotional support.”
