With the turning of a page in “The Sacrifice,” by Kathleen Benner Duble, the Navarre Bookworms are transported into early 17th century Andover, Mass.
Set in a time of religious turmoil, the three bookworms make friends with two colonial sisters, Abigail and Dorothy, who are accused of heresy. The sisters – not much older than the middle school-aged readers – are assumed witches and jailed for their crime.
Thus, the hysteria surrounding the Salem Witch Trials comes alive.
