Decked out in a long, white beard, all Gene York needed was a red suit to complete a Santa Claus look.
His friendly personality, gruff response and burly appearance earned him the nickname “Bear” among his American Legion Rider friends.
It was only appropriate that when the 68-year-old veteran passed away this past spring, the ALR decided to host a Toys for Tots run in his honor.
“He was a gentle soul,” said Mark Goode, director of the ALR and chair of the fundraiser. “He just loved kids.”
