Pullum subdivision requests variances

Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners will decide today whether to grant two variances for a new subdivi sion in Navarre.

Bill Pullum’s engineer Don Jehle told commissioners that the 75-lot subdivi sion was very narrow and was surround ed by wetlands, which makes it difficult to comply with two of the county devel opment code’s requirements for subdivi sions with more than 50 lots.

He asked for a variance to not have two entrances or a boulevard entrance to the first looped street and a variance to have street lengths greater than 1,320 feet with out a cul-de-sac.

County Engineer Roger Blaylock said historically, sub divisions over 50 lots were required to have two entrances or a boulevard to a loop street for emergency vehicle access. Jehle said he was asking for a single entrance from High School Boulevard because of the narrowness and flatness of the subdivision. He said most of the subdivision will only have lots on one side of the street and a storm water retention area on the other side to combat the high ground water table and the flatness of the property.
