School bus driver fired

Even though no charges have been filed against her yet, Santa Rosa County Schools bus driver Jacqueline Rock is no longer employed with Durham School Services.

Rock, 58, of Navarre was involved in a school bus accident on Nov. 10 in Navarre that killed George Potter III, 64, of Navarre. Potter was attempting to make a left-hand turn at the intersection of Navarre Parkway and Whispering Pines Boulevard when he was hit by a school bus driven by Rock.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Rock failed to apply the bus brakes in time to stop for the red light. Potter was pronounced dead at the scene and Rock was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center with minor injuries. The FHP investigation can take up to 90 days, but no charges have been filed against her yet.

Durham has contracted with the school system for bus services for the last three years.
