Caring and Sharing wrap up the holidays

Navarre High School JROTC cadets organize food Saturday for Caring and Sharing's Christmas distribution.

Caring and Sharing of South Santa Rosa County had another successful season by helping 290 local families have a merry Christmas.

This year the volunteer, nonprofit organization helped 290 families, including more than 420 children and 46 infants, benefited from all the gracious volunteers and community donations. The organization wrapped up its annual holiday food and gift distribution to support the less fortunate last weekend for its 33rd year.

Late Friday afternoon and all day Saturday volunteers of all ages and walks of life worked together to sort through mountains of donated food to fill the 290 food boxes and to get everything ready for final distribution on Sunday afternoon.

Navarre High School JROTC cadets and other young club volunteers did most of the heavy lifting, but there was still work for everyone.

“Distribution preparation provides a wonderful volunteer experience for families with school-age children and teens needing to earn service hours toward Florida’s Bright Future Scholarships and other school or civic programs,” said Ann Thompson, Caring and Sharing president.
