Amidst the blistering heat, hundreds gathered on the grounds of the Hurlburt Field Air Park last Friday to bid farewell to one of the most notable aircraft – the MH 53 Pave Low helicopter.
The Vietnam-era helicopter was officially retired, along with the deactivation of its operating crew – the 20th Special Operations Squadron. It was the last operating Pave Low in the Air Force.
The Pave Low flew on its last mission on Sept. 26, 2008 in Operation Enduring Freedom. The final homecoming, returning the helicopter’s crew to the States was Oct. 3.
