Future generations of athletes will forever be reminded of Navarre Raider Ian Lockwood after Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners passed a resolution naming the Navarre Youth Sports Complex football field in his memory.
Lockwood was a football player with NHS Raiders and a Navarre Beach lifeguard. After fighting brain cancer since August 2009, Lockwood died Jan. 28 just a few months shy of his high school graduation.
Commission Chairman Lane Lynchard read the resolution aloud during Monday’s commissioner committee meeting. After his original diagnosis, Lockwood adopted the Live Strong motto that became the rallying cry for his NHS Raiders team.
“Ian continued to live life to the fullest and became an inspiration to his teammates,” Lynchard said.
