The Stokes family opened its new kiln Saturday as part of the Beaches to Woodlands Festival opening weekend to give the public an up-close look into what they do.
Brenda and Marty Stokes started Holley Hill Pottery more than 30 years ago on their Buckeye Drive property with one kiln. The Stokes opened their newest wood-firing kiln Saturday to show visitors the traditional process.
"Marty and I have been up here with Holley Hill Pottery probably since 1979. In 1980 he built the first kiln and about five years later he built a second kiln and we've been firing them ever since," Brenda said. "Clay is a fun way to make a living."
