More people will be eligible to serve on the Holley-Navarre Water System board of directors after the board amended its bylaws regarding board member qualifications.
Ken Walker, water system general manager, said the current bylaws, enacted in 1998, stated that eligible board members must be a member and must reside in the franchise area. He said a recommendation was made to take out the part requiring board members to reside in the franchise area.
“This would open board participation up to several of our corporate-type members and some persons who own rental property as well,” he said.
The board unanimously approved the bylaw amendment.
Walker said the board bases its rules and decisions on Florida statutes, the company charter and company bylaws. The bylaws state that the board of directors is to be made up of seven members and is open to anyone who is on the water system and paying for services.
