YMCA marks five years

The Betty J. Pullum Family YMCA celebrated its five-year anniversary Monday by celebrating its members.

The 78 members who have been with the YMCA since the beginning were recognized with certificates and a banner with all the member names that will hang in the YMCA building.

All former members who wanted to come back and rejoin the YMCA had the $50 joiner fee waived on Monday.

YMCA had door prizes, fresh fruit, water and other small giveaways for members throughout the day.

Vanessa Porten, YMCA membership director, said the YMCA currently had 3,280 members.

"But we would always like more members," she said.

Members can enjoy the fitness center with Star Trac cardiovascular equipment, including treadmills, elliptical cross trainers, recumbent and upright bikes and free weights, a gymnasium with basketball and volleyball courts, a multi-purpose room for group-fitness classes and youth and adult programs, a child-care area, free fitness assessments and personalized exercise prescriptions and an outdoor pool.
