Fire board seeks increase in pay for firefighters

After presenting a newly-structured pay scale for the Holley-Navarre Fire Department, Fire Chief Ron Norton requested the fire commissioners approve a 2.2-percent non-ad-valorem increase in pay for the firefighters.

The request was made during the fire commissioner’s July 25 meeting.

Though Commissioner J.E. Blankenship disagreed with the increase, Norton reminded the board that there had not been an increase since 2006. The board approved moving forward with the increase, while Blankenship voted against the measure.
