The Gulf Breeze City Council has made the decision to install a red-light enforcement camera at the Hospital / U.S. Highway 98 intersection.
The decision came after a two-day test period to determine how much of a danger the spot was. Data recorded during that time showed 57 violations within a 16-hour time frame.
Councilman David Landfair said that intersection saw by far the most accidents of any other in the city. “This is not a miracle cure, but the more people realize we have vigilant law enforcement, the more caution they’ll show.”
Similar cameras are already in operation at the Daniel Drive light. According to City Manager Edwin “Buz” Eddy, the intersection has seen fewer crashes since their installation.
Gulf Breeze resident Mitchell Delgado received a $150 ticket in the mail a couple of days ago after running the red light at the Daniel Drive intersection. “I think it’s a joke,” he said. “The camera is just there to trap people and get them in trouble!”
