The unsightly dock wading out into Navarre Sound, just behind the Butterfly House, will soon be replaced.
Though it was built in 2004, shortly after Hurricane Ivan, numerous storms have damaged the small fishing pier, making it unsafe to walk on, said Michael Schmidt, Santa Rosa County assistant engineer.
“Even though it’s not old, we’ve had numerous big storms since Ivan that beat us up pretty bad,” he said. He said the replacement of the pier in 2004 was part of a larger Federal Emergency Management Agency project, and he couldn’t immediately pinpoint the exact cost.
