TDC to combat water pollution

The Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council agreed something needed to be done to put an end to the pollution of Blackwater River and Coldwater Creek, but no one could agree on the right solution.

Jack Sanborn, TDC board member, asked the board to write a letter to the Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners asking that the tubing and canoeing portions of the river and creek be designated as county parks. The designation would prohibit alcohol on those portions of the water because the county park ordinance would be enforced.

Sanborn said he hoped more restrictions would decrease the amount of litter and bad behaviors along the waterways. He said the river and creek had gotten a bad reputation among locals and tourists because of the litter and alcohol-related incidents.
