A project nearly a decade in the making has finally been completed.
The new Holley wastewater treatment plant on Gordon Evans Road began operations July 18 to treat about 12,000 gallons of water a day.
The Holley-Navarre Water System board of directors held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday for its new, state-of-the-art facility.
“It’s a very high-tech plant,” said project manager Phil Phillips.
Ken Walker, general manager of the Holley-Navarre Water System, said the new plant was permitted to treat up to 250,000 gallons of wastewater a day and the capacity could be expanded up to four times that amount in the future. However, he said the current demand in Holley was only about 12,000 gallons a day. The plant usage is low considering the wastewater treatment plant in Navarre has a 3 million gallon-a-day wastewater permit.
