The Gulf Breeze City Council held the first public reading Monday of revisions to the city ordinance.
Ultimately, the section banning the discharge of firearms or explosives in the city without a permit will be dissolved.
This change comes in an attempt to comply with Florida Statutes Section 790.33 after it was amended by recently enacted House Bill 45. The purpose of Statute 790.33 was to guard against the possibility of local governments violating the constitutional rights of citizens and their use of firearms.
This will take any aspect of the control of firearms and ammunition out of the hands of the City Council, and put the responsibility solely in the hands of the Florida Legislature.
