The Santa Rosa County library system will implement a new internet safety program in August.
Linda Hendrix, director of library administration, said the program will require anyone under the age of 18 to take an online internet safety course.
“Any minor will need to take an internet safety class about how to be safe on the internet; they have to take the course before they register to use the computers and internet. We will probably launch that in August after our summer reading program is over,” said Hendrix.
She also said the classes include a lot of information such as what to watch for, how not to engage in certain activities, and how to report inappropriate conduct to adults.
“A lot of the parents’ part is monitoring and being aware of what all is not safe out there. The courses teach them not only about the sexual safety, but bullying and other things so prevalent today. The main thing is to report them to an adult, whether that is a teacher parent or other adult,” said Hendrix.
