Adding U.S. Highway 98 to the Florida Strategic Intermodal System could cost more than Santa Rosa County is willing to pay.
“(SIS) is where the money is, but I don’t think we’re ready to change the entire complexion of U.S. 98,” Santa Rosa County Commission Chairman John Broxson said Monday, adding that the congested east-west corridor does not meet the state’s level-of-service requirements for SIS facilities. If the highway is designated a SIS facility, it will immediately fail state standards. Local governments cannot issue develop orders for projects on a road that doesn’t meet level-of-service standards.
