The Columbiettes of St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Gulf Breeze are hosting their Inaugural Flag Day 5K run on June 18 and the group is hoping to attract as many runners, walkers, and cheerleaders as possible.
The theme of the race is Flag Day (June 14) and was chosen specifically to honor the military.
“We chose Flag Day as a theme to honor our country and our military who humbly give us the freedoms we treasure,” said Ellen Stanley, president of the Columbiettes.
The Columbiettes are a group of practicing Catholic women who work with the Knights of Columbus Council at St. Sylvester. The group’s goals are to support the ideals of the church, the Knights of Columbus and the United States of America.
The race is a fund-raiser for several charities such as The Special Operations Warrior Foundation, Interfaith Ministries, Gulf Breeze, and the South Santa Rosa County Caring and Sharing.
