Picking your own produce

Santa Rosa County Commissioner Don Salter, Richard A. Mache, USDA Rural Development; Cindy Anderson, executive director of TEAM Santa Rosa; and Ferdinand Salomon, a member of TEAM’s board of directors; celebrate local farmers. The Panhandle Fresh Marketing Association has changed its Community Supported Agriculture program; this year, instead of members receiving one box of produce selected by someone else, members will be able to choose their own produce selections.

The organization is a community-based food system model with 23 farmers signed up with the organization.

“It is a local effort to assist farmers in pooling their resources and allowing them access to larger markets in the produce industry. PFMA operates in the regional area including, but not limited to: Florida counties of Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton, and Alabama counties of Mobile and Baldwin,” said Andrea Sutrick, marketing manager for Panhandle Fresh.

Panhandle Fresh changed its program to better suit the members, Sutrick said.
