Navarre Children’s Park tile wall has become multi-generational

Jessica Simmons has a handprint on the tile wall in the play area.Spots were claimed with lawn chairs, coolers held drinks and food and several children ran around with paint-covered hands and feet during the first Thursday Evenings in the Park.

For the first time in many years, according to Mike Sandler of the Navarre Beach Area Chamber Foundation, the foundation sold tiles for the Navarre Children’s Park wall that runs around the playground area. Interested families could purchase a tile and then have their child decorate it. Many chose to put a handprint or footprint on the tile along with a name and date.
“The handprints are there for years and years and now the kids are part of the park,” Sandler said.
Sandler said even though each tile is unique, one of the most interesting aspects was the fact that the wall is now multi-generationally represented. Residents who had successfully stamped the wall with their own mark were now bringing their children to do the same thing.
