The words of old and new poets alike were spoken by public figures and members of the community during the first annual poetry reading to celebrate National Poetry Month.
The event took place at D’wons on April 21 from 8 to 11 p.m. The first two hours were filled with educators, members of the community and members of the Santa Rosa County Arts and Culture Foundation, who hosted the event, reading the poems of well known poets of the past few centuries. The final hour was an open mic opportunity for anyone who attended to read their own poetry, such as Mark Conte, capital fundraising chairman of the foundation and past college professor.
