Tears of joy, fits of laughter, lots of hugs, the clank of medals and one big, shiny trophy: this was the scene at Tate High School on April 2 when the Navarre High School Winterguard placed second in their division at the Circuit Championships.
The winning performance was called “Papa was a Rolling Stone.” The team scored 83.1 points, 1.5 points behind the winning team.
Winterguard consists of students choreographing flag, rifle and sabre moves to music.
The Navarre High School Winterguard has been practicing three times a week for months to prepare for the competitions. They placed in the top three in every competition they attended and came in first in their division at the Pace High School competition. The team came in fourth out of 26 teams from Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, Georgia and Florida at the regional championships in March.
The NHS Winterguard is coached by Ashley Myers, Jeff Welsh and Amber Green.
