FDOT unveils updated U.S. 98 widening plan

Realtor Walter Pierce of Pensacola Beach sells properties from Alabama east to Panama City. He spends a lot of time driving on U.S. Highway 98, the busy interstate artery that doubles as main street for much of the Emerald Coast.

He knows its challenges, but Pierce isn’t convinced widening the road is the best solution.

“I think that if you build more lanes, you’re going to have more traffic,” he said during a Florida Department of Transportation workshop Oct. 28 at the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church’s Soundside Campus. “If we build it, they will come.
