Community Grant needed to continue Navarre East water improvements

Grant needed to continue Navarre East water improvements

The Holley-Navarre Water System will complete sewer improvements in Navarre East if Santa Rosa County gets the money, the system's board of directors agreed last week.

"We ran out of funds last year," said Ken Walker, the system's general manager. "We completed Phase 1, now the county's applying for a grant for Phase 2."

After Hurricane Ivan devastated much of the county in 2004, the Florida Department of Community Affairs awarded Santa Rosa County $9 million in federal Community Development Block Grants for disaster recovery, with $1.5 million earmarked for sewer improvements in Serosa Estates and Navarre East. The county is applying for another $750,000 grant to complete Navarre East improvements, including installing pressurized sewer lines and grinder stations to liquefy raw sewage.
