Lori A. Young-Davis, 42, and Cassie Davis, 8, both of Gulf Breeze, were treated and released form Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
Davis was traveling westbound on U.S. 98 around noon when Shelby L. Waid-Chestney, 16, of Fort Walton Beach, lost control of her vehicle.
Waid-Chestney had been traveling eastbound on U.S. 98 when she drove up on the curb of the north side of the highway. According to Florida Highway Patrol, she overcorrected and steered sharply to the left, crossing both westbound lanes and the double yellow line and finally into the eastbound lane.
Waid-Chestney then collided with Davis.
Both Waid-Chestney and her passenger, Courtney T. Evans, 15, of Fort Walton Beach, were uninjured.
Both drivers were wearing a seatbelt and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
Waid-Chestney was cited for failure to maintain a single lane.
