Community Sheriff: Lock your car door

Sheriff: Lock your car door

While Navarre is most known as a safe bedroom community, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office cautions: thieves lurk in the night.

Aside from the recent rash of burglaries on Navarre Beach, on the mainland, Navarre has been experiencing a rash of "car-hopping."

"People are going around flipping the door handles of cars, checking to see which ones are unlocked," said Lt. Patrick Vega, Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office District 2 supervisor, which encompasses Navarre. "They can canvas an entire neighborhood in minutes. It's that easy."
