Applying the Four-Way test

A Holley-Navarre Middle School student won first place in the Rotary Club of Navarre essay contest offered to all eighth grade students in the Navarre area.

The contest asked entrants to write an essay on what the Four-Way Test means to them personally.

Alex Naselius received a $100 savings bond for his essay,  “Using the Rotary Four-Way Test for the Toughest Decision of My Life.” Runners-up Joal Swindells, also of Holley-Navarre Middle School, and Jackson Walker and Aly Coleman, both of Woodlawn Beach Middle School, received $50 savings bonds. All were invited to lunch with the Rotary Club last Thursday.

Rotarians abide by the Four-Way Test as ethical guidelines. To determine if an act or decision is pragmatic, club members ask themselves:

  •  Is it the TRUTH?
  •  Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  •  Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  • Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
