Pier opening scheduled for Saturday, June 5

Read more...           The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners, Ed Waters and Sons Contracting Company and PBS&J will host a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 5 to open the long awaited new Navarre Beach Pier. The public is invited to attend the event in front of the pier located at 8579 Gulf Boulevard. At 1,545 feet, the pier is the longest in the State of Florida and the Gulf of Mexico.

UWF biology professor educates commissioners on the science of oil spill

Dr. Dick A. Snyder, director of the University of West Florida Center for Environmental Diagnostics and Bioremediation in the biology department, addressed the Santa Rosa County commissioners at their regular meeting on May 27, trying to dispel rumors and to scientifically evaluate the oil-spill situation, as it relates to Navarre Beach and the adjoining Florida coast.

Erin Brockovich to visit Pensacola

Erin Brockovich, the outspoken legal researcher turned celebrity advocate, will be visiting Pensacola next week to meet with Gulf Coast residents impacted by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

 

Brockovich, best known for the 2000 film of the same name, will join Pensacola-based investigator Carol Moore at a town hall-style meeting at 6 p.m. May 20 at the Saenger Theatre in downtown Pensacola.

 

Brockovich now works for the New York law firm Weitz & Luxenberg, which has filed lawsuits based on oil spill claims.

 

"I would like to tell the local commercial fisherman who aren't able to earn a living, and other business owners, 'You have rights and we can help,'" said Brockovich is a press release.

 

 

Goodin to seek another term

Ending months of speculation, Santa Rosa County Commissioner Gordon Goodin formally announced he will be vying for a third term in office.
