WOMAN DEAD FOLLOWING DISNEY WORLD BUS CRASH
One woman is dead following a bus crash near Walt Disney World's Epcot theme park. The Florida Highway Patrol reports that a Disney's Magical Express bus rear-ended a car Friday afternoon. Witnesses said the car appeared to be slowing down or stopping, possibly from mechanical problems, right before the crash.
SEN. BILL NELSON LAMENTS PARTISANSHIP IN DC
U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson on Friday urged the leaders of Florida's 410 municipalities to pressure their federal lawmakers into ending the partisanship that has kept legislation on immigration, the budget and transportation from passing in Washington in recent months. The Democrat made his plea at the Florida League of Cities annual conference in Orlando.
MAN ACCUSED IN FACEBOOK KILLING GETS NEW ATTORNEYS
Three South Florida attorneys will represent a man accused of killing his wife and then posting pictures of her body on Facebook. A judge on Friday approved a request for preservation of evidence in the case against 31-year-old Derek Medina. The attorneys took over from the Public Defender's Office, which initially represented Medina.
FLORIDA UNEMPLOYMENT RATE REMAINS FLAT AT 7.1 PERCENT
Florida's unemployment rate is staying flat. State officials announced Friday that the state's jobless rate has remained at 7.1 percent for the third straight month. The state rate, however, remains below the national unemployment rate of 7.4 percent.
JACKSONVILLE CHURCH NAMED MINOR BASILICA
The oldest Catholic church in Jacksonville has been named a minor basilica. According to an official letter from the apostolic office in Rome, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church is now one of 77 Catholic churches in the United States and six in Florida to have the designation. There are more than 1,400 minor basilicas across the world.
