l TWO EMACIATED HORSES TAKEN FROM SOUTH FLORIDA OWNER
Authorities in South Florida have confiscated two emaciated horses from an owner who said he could no longer care for them. The Broward Sheriff's Office reports that deputies responded Monday following tips from concerned citizens in Southwest Ranches. The horses were turned over to a non-profit group called Peaceful Ridge Rescue.
l FLORIDA GOVERNOR PRAISES GOLF CHANNEL EXPANSION PLANS
Florida Gov. Rick Scott is hailing a decision by The Golf Channel to expand its worldwide headquarters in Orlando. Scott on Tuesday visited the cable network operation where he announced that the company is consolidating its digital media operations for its GolfChannel.com and GolfNow.com websites. The move is expected to create at least 75 jobs.
l BLACK BEAR SIGHTINGS INCREASE IN PANHANDLE
Wildlife officials say the number of black bear sightings is on the rise in the Florida Panhandle. Since January, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has logged 360 calls about bear sightings in a four county area. That's up from 249 during the same period last year.
l BOY DEAD AFTER INNER TUBE HITS DOCK
A boy who was injured when an inner tube he was riding with two others crashed into a dock on a central Florida lake has died. The Polk County Sheriff's Office reported Tuesday that 10-year-old Hunter Gonzalez died over the weekend, a day after being injured.
l WOMAN KILLED BY LEE COUNTY DEPUTY
A southwest Florida woman has been killed in a deputy-involved shooting. The Lee County Sheriff's Office reports that 40-year-old Donna M. Weaver died outside a Bonita Springs home.
