The Florida Department of Health in Santa Rosa County has issued a water quality advisory for the Sound at Navarre Park on Highway 98 in Navarre. The health department advises against any water-related activities in the Sound waters at this location due to the potential for high bacteria levels of Enterococci, or fecal strep.
The high bacteria levels are most likely a result of runoff from the week's heavy rains, said Debbie Stilphen of the Florida Department of Health in Santa Rosa County. Stilphen advises against swimming, boating or any other contact with the water until tests show reduced levels. People with cuts or open wounds are at great risk for complications, she said. The health department will continue to monitor the water quality in this area weekly and routinely advise the public of the results.
