‘Sovereign citizen’ dead after police standoff

Wright B

Jeffrey Wright, a Navarre resident, is dead after a late-night standoff with Santa Rosa County Deputies on March 8.

SWAT responded to Avenida De Galvez in Robledal Estates after Wright barricaded himself with a semi-automatic pistol in the second floor of his home. Wright, 54, claimed to be a sovereign citizen and as such did not need to comply with law enforcement.

“We were there, sitting around the table finishing dinner,” said Wright’s mother, Carole. “My son was still eating when they (deputies) came to the door. He heard his name and he knew who it was.”

Carole said that her son had moved back to the area in late 2011 after suffering a stroke; he lived with them in their Navarre home.
