Jack-knifed truck causes delays

Gary Hennessee had just dropped off a load of U.S. mail when he was cut off by another driver, causing him to jack-knife his mail truck at the intersection of U.S Highway 98 and Sunrise.

The accident happened a little after 7a.m., just in time for morning traffic.

“I was in the left hand lane (traveling west),” he explained. “The light turned orange (yellow) as I approached the intersection and I didn’t think I had enough time to stop.”

His intent was to go through the light, but the car in the right-hand west bound lane cut in front of him and stopped suddenly for the light.

He slammed on the brakes and veered to the right to avoid hitting the car, at which time the truck jack-knifed and came to a stop.

Hennessee was not injured.

“The driver (of the car that cut in front of him) asked if I was okay and then left when the light turned green,” he said.

Drivers traveling west-bound on U.S. 98 can expect delays at the intersection until a tow truck is able to remove the semi-truck.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
