Popular former fire chief dies

Former Holley-Navarre Fire Chief Les Slocum died Friday, Oct. 31, at his home in Navarre.

He was born Aug. 22, 1950, in Little Falls, N. Y., to Arthur and Margret Crouch. He is survived by his wife, Betty, and daughter, Lisa.

Slocum recently retired after serving 40 years in the fire service.

“All who knew Les loved him, and he was a fireman to the core,”  Lisa Slocum said. “Firefighting was his passion, along with caring about everyone.”
