Since its creation, the Santa Rosa County Administrator's position was not required to undergo performance evaluations.
That changed when Commissioner Bob Cole placed the motion on the agenda during a July 2011 board meeting. Cole stated that his reasons for submitting the recommendation were that "there had never been a professional evaluation of the county administrator by the board," adding that "all the other staff is evaluated." He said he didn't think it was fair for the county administrator not to be evaluated.
